On the Scene Magazine

About Us

On the Scene magazine was first launched in September 2004 by Fresh Promotions initially as a simple free gig guide for the North West Soul scene with a little editorial and was distributed at events throughout the region as there was no other magazine doing this at the time.

It soon got known and for an event promoter on the soul scene it became the main place to advertise and within three months it had changed from a regional to a nationwide publication due to its overwhelming popularity. It was at this time that we started to include soul events from throughout the UK whilst also increasing our editorial content.

As we began to take in more events and our advertising grew we had no choice but to increase the size of the guide which initially was an 8 page A5 folded sheet this was then increased within 6 months to a 12 page and by the end of the year was a 20 page sheet. It was at this time that we decided it would be best to take the leap into a stapled A5 magazine which we did. This gave us more room for editorial and at this time we started to feature other scenes within the mag including the scooter and mod scenes as both are closely linked to the soul scene, we even started to include classic scooters for sale which added a lot of style and colour to the mag and was accepted by both soulie and scooterist and is how the magazine has stayed to this day.
